Even though you enjoy life, you may always find yourself looking for the next way to ensure you can enjoy it just that little bit more. And when it comes to leading a luxury lifestyle, you definitely want your endeavours to follow suit. Aside from the clothes you wear and the house you live in, there are other ways that you can ensure your life is as comfortable as you want it to be. To make that happen, you might want to look towards the luxury life hacks that can get you there. Because when you want to enjoy life even more, there’s always something that can make your days seems easier.
We can’t help but want nice things, but luxury isn’t found only in things. The most luxurious moments — like sleeping in on a rainy day, reading a good book while lounging in a hammock, or enjoying a delicious meal with someone you love — don’t require a trust fund. Focusing on things that really matter to you, and spending less on things that don’t, is the path to true luxury. For everything else, refer to the list below.
Two Foundational Money Hacks
Know your values
When you tune into your values, that is, what’s important to you and what you want to create, you’ll rarely go wrong when spending your money. Knowing your values will reduce your expenses on things you don’t care much about, and stop you spending money on things just to impress others.
Change your money attitude
Love money and learn how to manage it and respect it. Remove feelings of fear, shame, and guilt around money – these will cost you a lot and will trap you into cycles of self-sabotage and unconscious (and unhealthy) spending.
Be grateful for money – no matter your position in life. It helps provide you with needs and wants to live an amazing life. There’s nothing that can help you more to save and grow money than having a good relationship with it.
If you follow those two principles, you can’t go wrong, and your spending won’t encourage greed, nor your feelings centred on lack.
Eat Well at Home
If you’re a fan of fine foods, dining out can cost a fortune. However, if you’ve got cooking skills (or are willing to cultivate them) many mouthwatering dishes can be recreated at home for a fraction of the price. Use the money you save to splurge on a good bottle of wine and some chocolate for dessert!
Rent Your Fashion
Love big name designers but can’t handle the price tag? Platforms like Rent the Runway and Bag, Borrow or Steal make it easy to snag designer garments and accessories for a fraction of the retail price — and without the permanent commitment. Wear them for a while, then return and request something new.
If you want a home that looks like a million bucks without going into debt, think about crafting your own furnishings and decorative items. You’d be surprised how different things look after a fresh coat of paint, the addition of a few plants, and a funky DIY lamp or two.
You Can Get Into Clubs Much Easier, Simply By Calling Ahead
This one may not always work depending on exactly where you’re going and which nights, but almost always I’m able to get on a guest list at clubs in Vegas or NYC just by calling ahead.
Tell them you’re bringing some business clients out and give them a good reason for why you want to go to their establishement. Tell them you’ll have an equal number of guys to girls (even if you don’t) and almost always they’ll add you to the list, allowing you to skip the line and usually not pay. This works great at some of the larger clubs in Vegas (HTHL members will get two full posts devoted to how to do Vegas on the cheap.)
Look up local farmers markets. The fruits and vegetables are usually fresher since they don’t have to travel from across country or an international location. You can talk directly to the farmers about what they use on their crops if you want to make sure you’re getting organic. Also the prices are usually better than what you’ll find in the grocery store for most items.
PR Representatives Want To Help You
Almost any major hospitality or tourism related organization has a significant budget they can put towards media, exposure, and comps. The PR people working for these companies want to hook you up – as long as they’ll gain something from doing so. It’s your job to figure out what you legitimately have to offer these companies.
Have a big mailing list with a targeted audience? Tell them about it! Own a business in a resort town? Strike up a special offer for your customers. If there’s a way you can offer a hotel, ski resort, amusement park, golf course, restaurant etc. something that will expose them to a bigger audience, give it a shot. You may be surprised by what you’ll get in return.
Insoles For Your Shoes
Guys, these are amazing. Even shoes which cost $80+ seem to skimp on padding for your soles. A $13 pair of Dr. Scholl’s gel insoles will make you feel like a new person. Bonus if that extra comfort gets you to be more active. For ladies, you can even find insoles that will work for your flats. Flats are great for work but most of them are terrible for your back. Rectify this with a few dollars’ investment. They will make any pair of shoes feel instantly twice as expensive. Depending on the shoe, you may need to remove the sole that comes with it first in order to make enough room. Give it a shot.
A Signature Low-Cost Drink
This was a new one for me, but a few Redditors suggested mixing mango La Croix and orange juice 50-50 for a luxurious drink to serve friends or even just yourself on a relaxing night at home. The bubbliness gives it the feeling of a high end drink. Pour it in a wine glass and enjoy your super inexpensive luxury.
There are tons of ways to add luxury to your life for very little upfront cost. The trick is to apply your upgrades to elements of your life that occur daily, and to take advantage of today’s consumer-oriented plethora of products to buy something at the bottom of the cost curve.
